The oil paint should by now cover the entire picture.
Scumbling two adjacent areas which do not permit “clean” delineation,
is all right at this stage, it is even desired.

Please do not leave the slightest distance between areas scumbled
in different colours.

Colours have to, even must touch. If not, it creates a translucent
outline when the next layer is brushed on.

Soft outlines can still be made harsher, the reverse is almost impossible.

This is one of the reasons why this procedure should be completed
in one go.

The colour of the respective adjacent areas should not yet have dried.

White is mostly avoided during this stage. Exceptions are, of course,
bright sections/areas like a light sky or a white wall, etc.

White is opaque and even if mixed affects the glazing properties
of the layer.

Now, the painting has to rest for a few days before further work can
continue.

If you had the impression that applying the initial scumble was
somewhat tough and bothersome, it is now becoming easier.
The oil paint is no longer greatly absorbed.
